We have been celebrating!

Last night, seven women were named as outstanding at the UKRC's annual photographic award. The judges, headed by Lord Phil Willis, praised the winners and the very high calibre of nominations. There was also praise for the UKRC, with many speakers stressing the need for our work.

The portraits are wonderful, and you can see them and find out about the women on the Guardian website: http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/gallery/2011/may/06/women-outstanding-achievement-awards-2011

Read about the event on Athene Donald's blog: http://occamstypewriter.org/athenedonald/2011/05/06/the-power-of-images-2/ Athene was given a lifetime achievement award.

We were proud to present the UKRC CEO Charter to four recent signatories - Rockwell Collins UK Limited, Astins, GlaxoSmithKline and Centrica - and delighted to award the Science and Technology Facilities Council with our SET Fair Standard, an independently assessed award which gives public recognition for excellence in gender equality in SET sectors.

Thank you to everyone who came, everyone who nominated women (we had more entrants this year than every before, and a remarkably high standard), everyone who helped or supported us and in particular our sponsors who all joined us to mark the occasion.

Best wishes,

Ruth Wilson
