Agree - however there are those that swear by them....most of my
employees who lift heavy weights in the gym use them. Wouldnt take the
risk of sanctioning their use though........

Sensitivity: Confidential

Hi Therona

The HSE stance on this is that any suggested benefit is unproven and
their current stance advises against them.

If you go on to the HSE website and type in back support belts in the
search field it will bring up an article detailing this.

We do not use them as the guidance we have received is that their use
encourages people to lift above their capability whilst use of the belt
weakens the back, both of which can create a greater risk.

I have seen them in use on warehouses in the US though!

I hope this helps :-)

Does anyone know if back support belts are effective, a good idea, worth
while or a complete waste of time? We have book distributors who are
after some advice about these and I am afraid I dont really know much
about them, having never advised them before.

Kind Regards
