Hi Therona
The HSE stance on this is that any
suggested benefit is unproven and their current stance advises against them.
If you go on to the HSE website and type
in back support belts in the search field it will bring up an article detailing
this.
We do not use them as the guidance we have
received is that their use encourages people to lift above their capability
whilst use of the belt weakens the back, both of which can create a greater
risk.

Does anyone know if back support belts are effective, a good
idea, worth while or a complete waste of time? We have book distributors who
are after some advice about these and I am afraid I dont really know much about
them, having never advised them before.
