Further details for BFI Town Meeting on 23 May 2011 at BFI Southbank
Partnering with the BFI for future research applications

This event will provide an opportunity for film and media studies scholars to explore opportunities for research in conjunction with the BFI.

If you wish to attend please register with Louise Watson ([log in to unmask])

Registration will begin at 1045 in the Blue Room at BFI Southbank and coffee and tea will be available.

The morning presentations will begin at 1115 in NFT-1. Heather Stewart, newly appointed Director of Public Programmes at the BFI, will set the scene for future working relationship between the BFI and HE and outline the potential impacts that could be achieved by academics through working with the BFI

At 1130, Ruth Kelly, Head of Collections will provide an overview of the work of the Archive and Library detailing the conservation work required in Caring for the National Collections

At 1150, we will begin a series of presentations which provide an indication of our current thinking on future plans for major projects based on our Collections in the next ten years, and provide an insight from our curators about the unique material that the BFI holds across its Collections, much of it little researched.

Following an initial appraisal of the opportunities that working with the BFI presents in developing research on British film and television from Robin Baker, Head Curator of the BFI National Archive, the Senior Curators will identify key areas which they consider would benefit from research partnerships.

Briefings from Nathalie Morris (Special Collections and Stills), Nigel Algar (Feature Film collection), Patrick Russell (Non-fiction collection); Steve Bryant (TV collection) and Gabriele Popp (Library and Information) will run until 1315. Before breaking for lunch in the Blue Room we will outline how we intend to proceed to identify and develop specific projects and the necessary partnerships to apply for research funding.

From 1400 to 1600 BFI staff will be available for informal discussions about possible collaborative projects in the Blue Room. BFI Staff will be identifiable from coloured badges and each specialist area of BFI work, including members of teams from NFT programming, DVD, Online, Research and Statistics Unit, Sight and Sound and Publishing will be allocated a signposted space in the Room.

Apologies for cross-posting - some invitees appear not to have received our messages.
