CALL FOR PAPERS

Rapid technological development and the spread of new media platforms along with structural changes in the media landscape have raised the topicality and urgency of the issues of media accountability. The role of traditional media accountability instruments and practices, such as press councils and codes of journalistic conduct is changing. At the same time new practices and instruments, including user generated content and citizen journalism have emerged in the online space, allowing users to take an active part in the debate on the performance of media organizations today.

In the next issue of “Central European Journal of Communication” we seek to analyse full range of topics related to media accountability, both in the context of traditional and innovative forms. Special emphasis will be put on the usage of new technologies, development of self-regulation as well as changing roles of stakeholders involved in the processes of media accountability.

What are the political, professional and public ‘frames’ of media accountability in different media systems? What are the new problems with media accountability in the age of the Internet? What new instruments of accountability have emerged and how can they make media organisations more accountable to the public? What are the perspectives for the future?
