SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS - writing children's TV drama

A University of Leeds event in association CBBC and BBC Writersroom

Friday 27th May 11:30 - 16:30

Are you interested in writing Children's TV Drama but wouldn't know where to start? Do you want to learn how TV Scripts have transformed into ambitious dramas for a new generation?

Award-winning CBBC is one of the most loved channels for children and produces a raft of exciting programmes including Tracey Beaker Returns, MI High and Young Dracula. BBC Writersroom and Leeds University have organised a great opportunity to meet Connal Orton, Executive Editor for CBBC In-House Script Unit, ahead of the Children Department's move to Media City, Salford. This is a perfect chance to learn what it takes to engage and surprise a children's audience and you will also be able to ask Jo Combes, New Writing Development Manager from the Writersroom, about other fantastic new writing opportunities coming up across the whole of the BBC output.

This exciting event is taking place in the Alec Clegg Studio at Stage@Leeds, University of Leeds, and is chaired by Garry Lyons, scriptwriter and Lecturer in the University's School of Performance and Cultural Industries. Garry will also give a talk on children's television as an important training ground for scriptwriters and programme-makers, and we hope to be joined by other experts and specialists in the children's television field.

Attendance including lunch is free, but you must register with [log in to unmask]
There are only a limited amount of spaces available so your attendance is of upmost importance - we stress that you should only book a place if you can commit to attending the event.

Directions and details of the venue can be found at http://www.stage.leeds.ac.uk/venuehire.html
