The Digital Culture Research Centre and the Department of Culture, Media and Drama at the University of the West of England invite you to a convivial evening of discussion on contemporary flowerings of creative and critical research in new media and technoculture.

Laura U. Marks will talk about the key ideas in her new book Enfoldment and Infinity: an Islamic genealogy of new media art and their implications for our understanding of new media art and digital cultures today.

 Laura is Dena Wosk University Professor in Art and Culture Studies in the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University. She is also the author of The Skin of the Film: Intercultural Cinema, Embodiment, and the Senses and Touch: Sensuous Theory and Multisensory Media.

 

The event will also launch the book The New Media and Technocultures Reader, edited by Seth Giddings and Martin Lister (Routledge 2011).

MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and cultural studies in UK Higher Education. Membership is open to all who teach and research these subjects in HE institutions, via either institutional or individual membership. The field includes film and TV production, journalism, radio, photography, creative writing, publishing, interactive media and the web; and it includes higher education for media practice as well as for media studies.
