Hi Linda

The RKD artist database might be something to take a look at.
From their web site:

RKDartists&
RKDartists& is the largest on-line database of artists in the world. The database contains details of ca 360,000 people about whom the RKD possesses sundry forms of documentation. As the name suggests, most of these are artists. But art collectors, dealers and art historians are also incorporated in the database.

The url of their web page:

http://english.rkd.nl/Databases

The content of the RKDArtist database will be available shortly as a web service for use within Adlib Museum

I hope you find this information useful

Onderwerp: Thesaurus of people and organisation names??

We are looking at how we can standardise, across 8 partners, the names
we use for artists, makers etc. for our works of art and museum objects.

I have discovered that Finland have a names thesaurus - ONKI People: An
Ontology Service for Finding People and Organizations
http://www.seco.tkk.fi/services/onkipeople/

Is there anything similar for the UK / Europe?

Has anyone else tackled this issue and come up with their own home-grown
thesaurus of names?

Be interested in peoples thoughts / ideas...

Linda
