The Map Curators' Group of the British Cartographic Society is pleased 
to make this preliminary programme announcement for its Workshop to be 
held on*Wednesday and* *Thursday 7-8 September 2011* at the Park Inn in 
*York,* England.

This year's topic is/*"How to do more with less: promoting and running a 
map collection in a time of austerity" */


On *Wednesday 7th* our *speakers* will be:

Andrew Janes (The National Archives) /Make do and mend : signposting the 
unfindable on a budget/

       Carolyn Hansen (Brooklyn Historical Society) /Un-hiding maps
    @brooklynhistory: Using blogging software and social media to
    promote collection visibility/

Jean-Luc Arnaud (CartoMundi) The CartoMundi project

Speaker to be arranged but the topic will be the /Visualising Urban 
Geographies /project./

Rink Kruuk (National Geographic Institute, Brussels) The Cartesius project

       Bob Lilley (Manager Cartographic Design & Development, Ordnance
    Survey)  OS OpenData


The annual Business Meeting of the Map Curators' Group will follow the 
full-day programme of speakers.

The day will finish with an optional group meal at a local restaurant.


On *Thursday 8th* we are arranging the following *visits*:

YorkCity Archives and Local History
York Minster Library
National Railway Museum


Full details and booking forms will be available in mid-June.

Arrangements have been made with the /Park Inn/ for special rate rooms 
which delegates will book via the MCG.


Mark these dates in your diary and please join us in the historic city 
of York to meet colleagues and exchange ideas.
