* With apologies for cross-posting * Dear Colleagues, cpd25 is pleased to offer a one-day seminar on Tuesday, 14th June 2011 that aims to explore some of the issues facing academic libraries in the wake of Lord Browne's Independent Review of Higher Education Funding and Student Finance and the coalition government's subsequent proposals for the sector. As higher education becomes more market-driven, meeting rising student expectations will become a big concern for all of us and our event will include a speaker from the library of Britain's newest private university, BPP, where they are well-used to providing a service to fee-paying students. As the funding changes take effect there are also likely to be many changes in the teaching and research activities of our institutions and we will hear from the University of Sussex where the library has attempted to make itself more "agile" in this fluid environment. The government's demands that universities admit students from a broader range of social backgrounds will make the University of East London library's involvement in a scheme which aims to attract non-traditional learners into HE of particular interest. And how do librarians cope when student unrest physically impacts upon them? We'll get an account from Goldsmiths College where there library was occupied in November. The day will also include the opportunity for delegates to share their own experiences of working and managing during this time of uncertainty and a chance to hear about Voices for The Library campaign.
