I would assume that MOST filmmakers aren't nihilists as nihilism tends to be the minority view.
and henry’s idea is compelling ---- unless one wants to hypothesize – just for the sake of argument, of course – that it’s that minority that tends to become artists, that art is the substitute for the meaning or purpose or satisfaction that the rest of humankind finds in the business of living, or in the anticipation of an afterlife
it would make sense i suppose to think that those who find adequate meaning in life itself have no need for art . . . or, for that matter, for philosophy

I would assume that MOST filmmakers aren't nihilists as nihilism tends to be the minority view. It's a downer and quintessentially bad for box office. But artistically all the more interesting. How much frustration can be tolerated, and when does it itself become enjoyable?
