My apologies. I hit send too quickly!
I was meaning to ask what preparation your student had undertaken?  As with many students, practising past papers is essential. I would have thought that a student with Aspergers would definitely benefit from such a practice with support from specialists to ensure correct interpretations are being made. If the student is not preparing adequately, is the grandfather making an unreasonable request?

We don’t do anything here, but maybe there is a way of modifying the exam paper? Slightly changing the language/way the questions are set out? Though as Simon said – you would have thought - the more literal the better, in science!

Subject: Differential Marking for students with Asperger's Syndrome

Dear All,

We have a student studying a science subject here with us.  Her Grandfather has just gotten in touch to say that he hopes we will be taking her Asperger’s into account when her exams are marked.  By this, he means that her answers are sometimes very literal and this should be considered and she shouldn’t be marked down for this.

Does anyone have any policies on this which they could share with me or even ideas of what you do at your institutions?

Kind regards

Pauline
