I'm with you, Ray.  I have an almost identical statement that I have in my acknowledgement response when the request comes in. Glad to see I'm not alone.

Subject: Re: [data-protection] Form of Authority

Steve, all,

I've always been in the position where I can at least cross check the signature on the form of authority.  Also, I'm not sure what it is worth, but for a subject access request made through a solicitor I have a standard phrase in my reply which says something like:  as you are a solicitor acting on behalf of your client I am making the reasonable assumption that you have confirmed the identity of your client.

I'd be interested to see what other folk say on this.

All,

How do you treat 'Forms of Authority' from solicitors acting on behalf of their client?

On the 'Form of Authority', I have a signature and date from the supposed client. I have no proof this is the clients signature. (sometimes I can look at a file and match them but this is not always the case).

Is this enough evidence to release a 'housing file' or would I be in my rights for ask for the type of ID that I would request for an SAR?

Regards
Steve
