Steve, all,

I've always been in the position where I can at least cross check the
signature on the form of authority.  Also, I'm not sure what it is worth,
but for a subject access request made through a solicitor I have a standard
phrase in my reply which says something like:  as you are a solicitor acting
on behalf of your client I am making the reasonable assumption that you have
confirmed the identity of your client.

I'd be interested to see what other folk say on this.
