Dear all

In late June this year we will be taking down a display case created
with a group from Sheffield's Yemeni community. It was a co-curated
project, with all the objects from the personal collections of a local
Yemeni lady, and aimed to show life in Yemen in the 1960s to provide a
contrast with life in Sheffield at that time (it's opposite a display
about Park Hill flats). Many Yemeni men in particular came to Britain
for extended periods of time for work in the 1960s (and other decades)
leaving their families behind.

The display includes traditional Yemeni objects, such as cooking
implements and jewellery, costume, a large model of an interior room of
traditional Yemeni tower house, and a film showing images of Yemen.

The lady who co-curated it with me is keen for the objects to travel to
other places, perhaps where there is a Yemeni community like in
Sheffield.

Would anyone be interested in finding out more about the display objects
and whether they would be suitable for their museum? We included the
story of one particular Sheffield Yemeni man, but this could be left
out, and perhaps another person/ people local to your area included
instead.

It would not be a touring exhibition from Museums Sheffield- the contact
would be Najla Maadi and her family, and you would work directly with
them to adapt the display to your needs. It is possible that Najla would
be able to make contacts in your local community should you need that
link creating.

Please let me know if this is of interest and if you would like more
information.

Thanks

Clara
