Job Advertisement: Closing Date 31st May 2011 Two staff positions in the Astronomy Group at ASTRON Dwingeloo, the Netherlands) For the two staff positions, ASTRON is looking for enthusiastic candidates with a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics or a related discipline, demonstrated ability for ground-breaking research, an excellent publication record and the potential to secure external funding. One of the appointments will be made at a senior level - the candidate should be willing to assist in the management of this expanding and dynamic group. Both appointments are initially for two years with the prospect of becoming permanent subject to a positive evaluation. The selected candidates are expected to carry out innovative research in her/his own field of expertise. In addition, she/he is expected to provide valuable input into the various astronomical and technical programs at ASTRON and to take part in defining, developing & commissioning new facilities in which ASTRON is involved. ASTRON offers a vibrant research environment with strong technical expertise and influence in the new generation of emerging radio facilities such as LOFAR, WSRT-Apertif and the SKA, including the latter's pathfinder and precursor instruments. The Astronomy Group includes ~ 20 astronomers (staff and post-docs) who (co)supervise more than 10 PhD students.
