Call for Proposals: EPIC Graduate Student Research Symposium

The EPIC graduate student research symposium is an opportunity for postgraduate students in fields related to ethnographic praxis in industry to put forward research themes for discussion with session co-chairs and fellow students. Participants are asked to submit a two-page proposal for a 15-minute performance, video, interaction, or presentation that raises an important research question related to ethnographic praxis in industry. Participants can expect feedback from professors and professionals on their research.

Hosted by the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado at Boulder, the symposium will take place all day on Sept. 18, 2011. We encourage submissions from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds (e.g. anthropology, design, engineering, marketing), but participants must be currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program. Submissions should cover the following questions:

                 1. What is your research question or creative concept?
           2. How does it fit within existing knowledge, including your own findings or the key literature in the area?
           3. What are your methods or approach to the topic?
           4. What is the topic's contribution to knowledge about ethnographic praxis in industry?

Please send submission by April 17, 2011 to [log in to unmask]
Participants will be informed of their acceptation by May 12, 2011. Evaluative criteria will be:

                 1. Originality, insight, and creativity of the contribution
           2. Advancement in methods and theory about ethnographic praxis in industry
           3. Implications for praxis

Full papers (4-6 pages) for review are expected by June 15th, review feedback by July 15th.
Final papers are due by August 21st, 2011. Papers are published on the EPIC website. All student performers/presenters will be eligible for EPIC Scholarships to attend the conference.

We look forward to your contributions.
