There are several reports in the dermatological literature of chemical treatments such as those providing fire retardant properties having caused allergic contact dermatitis. However, caution is required before jumping to conclusions. We investigated a case where it was assumed that it was the fire retardant chemical causing an offshore oil workers skin problem (sufficiently severe to require evacuation from the rig). Working with a specialist dermatologist we were able to discover that it was a rare allergic reaction to the fragrance used in the washing powder that was the true cause!
If you have worker with suspected allergic reactions to the coveralls this needs careful investigation. If you need more, just give me a call.
