medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

I just saw *Of Gods and Men* (*Des hommes et des dieux*), the 2010 film
about the Trappist monks from Tibhirine in the Atlas Mountains in Algeria
who were kidnapped and killed in 1996. Apart from finding it exceptionally
beautiful, if I were teaching medieval monasticism I would love to show
extracts to illustrate traditional Cistercian life transposed *mutatis
mutandis *to a modern setting (liturgy, silence, *lectio divina*,
architecture and decoration, capitular government, agriculture, relationship
to villagers, monastic economy, urbanisation, colonisation, medicine, etc;
one could contrast relations with Islam). For many reasons I recommend it
highly. -- Paul
