Welcome to the April edition of the National Library for Public Health newsletter. We are also on Twitter, follow us or get in touch at @NLPHEngland

A new specialist evidence service to replace the Specialist Collections of NHS Evidence

As you know the National Library for Public Health provides access to specialised information on behalf of NICE (NHS Evidence).

From May 2011, NICE (NHS Evidence) will launch a new specialist evidence service to replace the existing Specialist Collections.

The new service will be easy to search and provide access to a much wider choice of quality specialist evidence content.

Users will be able to browse new clinical and public health topic pages – developed by experts - which will bring together the latest guidelines, high quality patient information, ongoing trials and other selected information including access to NICE pathways. NICE Pathways will allow users to easily visualise and browse associated NICE products online, guided through supporting documents making NICE guidance easier to navigate.

The National Library for Public Health will continue to operate, resourced by the North East Public Health Observatory, (NEPHO). However, from May 2011 the National Library for Public Health web pages will no longer exist as the specialist resources for public health will be accessible via the redesigned NHS Evidence site.  If you have added the National Library for Public Health web pages to your bookmarks and favourites then these links will work until early May 2011 but they will then be redirected to the main NHS Evidence site.

The purpose of this newsletter is to highlight new additions to the library and any special pieces of work we have done. We hope you find this useful and would welcome any comments. We are now using mailing list software to manage and maintain our contacts. If you would like to be added or removed from our mailing list, please visit our mailing list manager.

SEPHO - South East Public Health Observatory has published the Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Profiles

The profilies provide a snapshot of key issues relating to heart disease and stroke, including incidence, mortality, risk factors, treatments and costs. These profiles have been designed to help local health services to assess the impact of these elements of cardiovascular disease on their local populations and the services provided to meet those needs. They are intended to inform commissioning and planning decisions to tackle CVD and improve the health of local communities. They are available at local PCT level and at Cardiac Network level.

Consultations

Consultations on a number of public health topics are currently being run. Further details can be found via the links below:

The library has been developed to provide high quality evidence e-based information on all aspects of public health.

It is designed for those working in the field of public health by providing a single source of access to web based evidence on public health. It is being developed as part of the Department of Health Information and Intelligence Strategy by the North East Public Health Observatory. It replaces the Public Health Electronic Library (PHeL).

The National Library for Public Health does not contain patient information on individual medical conditions.

The National Library for Public Health is based at the North East Public Health Observatory on behalf of Public Health Observatories in England and is funded by the Department of Health."
