Dear All

For those of you who have suffered from the print consolidation issue causing missing print issues I've just had an email from Ebsco which offers a ray of light on this issue (see below).
For those of you with SWETS it might be worth asking them to promise the same resolution on supplying missing issues.

I hope this cheers some of you up :-)

Regards
Sandra

US Journals Consolidation Issue
Since our last communication, we have continued to press all publishers involved to find a solution.
Last week we had some positive news from the Operational Directors at both Elsevier and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW). Both have concluded high level discussions with their shipping agent, resulting in immediate changes to the delivery process.

• Elsevier and LWW are fully aware of the problems created by the changes in their delivery processes, and the significant frustration and operational impact this has
caused for customers, agents and end users alike.
• These publishers accept that resolving these problems is a matter of the highest priority for themselves and their shipping agent (Pitney Bowes), who has been
entrusted to handle deliveries on their behalf.
• Both the publishers and their shipping agent are working to resolve the problems and replace all missing issues as a matter of urgency.

It has been established from our own investigations that the shipping agent does not have an efficient onward delivery system in place; this means that deliveries for multiple end users are being consolidated and shipped to the main institutional address rather than being properly dispersed to the ultimate end users. This is being addressed immediately by the shipping agent.

Following our intervention, the majority of outstanding issues have been resolved for EBSCO customers. We will continue to work directly with the publishers to fulfil missing orders through alternative routes to the shipping agent, and where required we are demanding that the publishers provide refunds. We will continue to prioritise these issues until we have a satisfactory resolution for all EBSCO customers. In the meantime, please continue to place new claims through EBSCONET so that these are clearly documented and recorded, as this aids our claiming and investigation process with the publishers.

EBSCO will continue to keep you fully informed of any developments.
Yours sincerely, Ian Middleton, Vice President and European General Manager EBSCO Information Services
