This reminds me of an experience I had quite early in my career as an occupational psychologist. We were advising companies on selection techniques and I was sent to explore a type of management selection. The consultant asked me to draw three pictures: one of a tree, one of a family and one of a workplace. The consultant's feedback was quite insightful, but her conclusion was that I wasn't management material! A little sweeping as I was in my first post as a new graduate - hopefully I have more than proved her wrong in all of my subsequent posts. The interviewer said "I'll be back in five minutes to read what you've written" and left the room. I wrote on the paper "I can't think of anything to write". Five minutes later the interviewer came back, read my single sentence, and said "VERY interesting!". At the end of the day I got offered the job, but turned it down! I am being interviewed my a major newspaper and they are keen to know of any ridiculous (non relevant esp.) interview questions that our contacts may have been asked. I have a few to set you off but would be interested to know of more. Here are some for starters? If you were a book, what would you be about? (I kid you not - a law firm of all things.....) What about marriage? This from a very senior head-hunter to a Director of a University - she very quickly replied 'Thank you for the offer, I am flattered but I have someone else in mind!' Do you have any children? Answer 'No.' Swift follow up question: Does your husband have any children? Please come to the interview prepared to discuss the following film: (Insert name of topical film) Grateful thanks in advance to those who respond! Sue P.S.
