Hi,
We’re using Edexcel this year and so far the experience has been positive. We had nearly 900 L1/L2 entries for the March Window, including 630 for ICT, and things went pretty smoothly. We had an issue with a couple of the IT sessions on the first afternoon, but that wasn’t the fault of Edexcel. It was a very frantic week to run all these exams in a 5 day window, particularly for the ICT exams at one campus where we have limited IT rooms, so it was quite disruptive for the normal timetables. We have given feedback to Edexcel and requested longer windows next year.
I agree with Sandie in that the papers arrive in good time. Results were available online on the specified date. We’ve had the occasional problem with getting a quick response from their FS Helpdesk, but on those occasions we normally contact our Account Manager to get the issue resolved. They have been very accommodating in dealing with any queries/issues.
For Entry Level exams, there is a lot of paper involved. The Edexcel instructions say that we’re not meant to download and store the live exam papers on a PC, but should just print them off from their secure site as and when required. I wasn’t prepared to do this, so have downloaded and printed one master set of all papers which we keep securely and copy as and when required by the tutors. Edexcel are happy with this approach.
Our tutors are responsible for the running of all the EL exams, normally during lesson time, we just supply the exam papers and any data files required for the ICT ones.
For L1/L2, we’ve only run the paper-based exams, but plan to try the online versions next month for both Maths & English.

Subject: Edexcel FS - C&G FS - which to go with next year?
We are using C&G this year for FS however the tutors are deciding whether to go with Edexcel next year.
If you are using Edexcel for FS have you found any admin nightmares or any benefits to Edexcel?
The ICT Entry Level tests seem a nightmare from reading the spec. Do tutors hold their own tests within lesson time? Do they change the context of the test and do they hold them in two separate sittings?
Any info would be greatly appreciated
