* The BC Civil Liberties Association has launched a lawsuit to strike down Canada’s assisted suicide law. The BC Civil Liberties Association are representing Lee & Hollis Johnson who brought Lee’s mother, Kathleen Carter (89), to die in Switzerland in January 2010 by assisted suicide at the Dignitas suicide clinic.
The lawsuit claims that Canada’s Criminal Code provisions (section 241) that prohibit assisted suicide are unconstitutional.

The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition will be watching this case closely and will apply to intervene in the case, if necessary, at the appropriate time. Legalizing assisted suicide is a recipe for elder abuse.
This is the second challenge to Canada’s assisted suicide law. Last week the Farewell Foundation went to court to challenge Section 241b of the Criminal Code.
