Thanks for this Anne. This looks like a very viable way forward. We've been having a bit of offline discussion about it this morning and have ideas about how we might be able to facilitate it. While we've got so many cataloguing-related people gathered together in one online forum, could we have a bit of a 'show of hands' as it were, on how many people might be interested in taking part if we can move this forward? Possibly (though very early days, obviously, so making no promises!), a Nov/early Dec timeframe would be an option. It would be ideal if we could have a go at this before 2012, when some people have already expressed hopes to implement. Obviously we would need to discuss at CIG etc, but it would be good to know if people would find this idea helpful. Expressing an interest doesn't commit you to anything! It occurs to me that it would be possible to use the eforum style to do some practical work. Just as the LOC had a set of core examples that everyone used, with enough time to copyright clear title pages and versos, we could set up for print materials quite easily. I'm sure that Helen at Facet Publishing would be quite friendly about letting us use Facet's title pages and versos, for example. For non-print materials it's a *little* harder, but I guess we could suggest titles that we'll all have a go at and then give a long period of time to acquire them if necessary??? Then in the forum, we could split the two days into, say, 10 time sections, and people could share their records and then discuss them. So, for example, we could all share record 1 between 9-9:15, and then discuss the variations from 9:15-10:00 I think key things about RDA are local decisions about options and cataloguer judgment, so different places may have different-looking records that are still "right" under RDA. By the end of the 2 days, we would have produced ten records and discussed the differences between them, which would be helpful for us all. And if people don't have access to RDA, they could do their best from the drafts or just spectate / comment / ask questions. Just an idea.
