(On behalf of the Edinburgh local group of the RSS, who hosted an event on this topic last week:)

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is currently developing new measures of national well-being. The aim is that these new measures will cover the quality of life of people in the UK, environmental and sustainability issues, as well as the economic performance of the country. They are currently seeking input on the development of the new measures. You can contribute to the debate through the website at

       http://www.ons.gov.uk/well-being

The website also lets you look at the views of other people, and provides background information on the measurement of well-being. Please note that the deadline for contributing to the initial debate is 15th April (this Friday).
