The organisers of the UK & Ireland Planning Research Conference (Birmingham, September) have approved a proposal for a themed session on: A Future Beyond the Car, arranged by Anzir Boodoo of Leeds ITS and myself. There will be four 20 minute speaking slots. We also have in principle agreement from a journal which will be producing a special issue on this theme (more details on this to follow). The deadline for submitting an abstract is March 25th. The sub-themes for the session are: · Learning from carfree developments and carfree neighbourhoods already built · The potential for carfree areas in UK cities in the short and medium term · Planning for cities beyond the car in the longer-term The instructions for submitting an abstract are on: http://www.curs.bham.ac.uk/planning-research-conference-2011/abstracts.shtml.
