Thursday 24th March 6-8 Ben Pimlott 3/4 seminar rooms, Goldsmiths ICARUS: generative music making Icarus is the experimental music duo of Ollie Bown and Sam Britton. In 2010 they performed in absentia at the North Sea Jazz Festival with trumpeter Tom Arthurs and bass clarinetist Lothar Ohlmeier, using interactive and generative software to do the work for them. In 2011 they are attempting to produce an album that will be made commercially available in 1000 varieties. Each time a copy gets digitally purchased, that version will never again be available and a new one will take its place. Ollie and Sam will discuss these two projects, presenting their findings from a 3 week residency at STEIM throughout February, on the technical challenges of making their new album.
