Dear SPMers,

We are planning to do a MRI study in headache patients. Since this is the first time we are going to do a MRI study, we are planning to do study on existing MRI data of headache patients from our hospital record. We will do a comparative study, considering headache patients with normal MRI report as group-I (control) and headache patients with abnormality detected MRI report as group-II (study group). We are planning to use VBM method for our study to compare the changes in the brain structure.

We are using GE Signa HDxe 1.5T scanner for MRI in our hospital. The following images are taken for each headache patients;

AX_T2_FLAIR
Ax_T2_PROPELLER
SE_AXIAL_T1
COR_T2_FRFSE
Sag_T1
Ax_DWI_1000b
COR_T2_FLAIR
COR_3D_SPGR
COR_3D_SPGR
Apparent_Diffusion_Coefficient

I would like to know which one of the images is best for VBM study. Can we use all the available images for VBM study? Since we are going to do this MRI study for the first time, we are expecting some details in the VBM procedure from SPM experts.

And we appreciate any comments/corrections in our plan.

With thanks
Ramesh
