sigma North West and North Wales Hub for Maths Support
Launch Event

Continuing the work undertaken under CETL Funding, sigma is now working with the HE-STEM Programme to establish the sigma Mathematics Support Network, a free association of staff and institutions providing mathematics and statistics support. Often, those offering mathematics or statistics support can be isolated in their institution. The sigma Mathematics Support Network will provide staff with the opportunity to meet fellow practitioners and to work together to share resources and experiences. The Network operates both at a national level and through a network of regional Hubs. The hubs work to:
* Build a local network, with representatives from HE who are interested in mathematics support as it applies to them
* Provide local access to workshops, events and speakers of interest to the community
* Inform on funding and other collaborative opportunities
* Facilitate the sharing of knowledge, practice and materials across the region
* Co-ordinate views from the local network to feed into an annual forum
* Help raise the profile of mathematics support locally
This launch event will include presentations from: Dr Leslie Fletcher from LJMU on the JISC MathAssess Project; Dr Peter Samuels from BCU on the psychosocial context of diagnostic testing; Moira Petrie, the Assistant Director of sigma, and Chetna Patel on diagnostic testing in maths. However, a core purpose is to initiate the network and find out what kind of events and support would be most useful and welcome to the whole range of maths support practitioners in the NW and N Wales.
The event is free and lunch will be provided. Location details and directions will be sent to applicants.
