Scottish Higher Education Employability Conference: Strengthening Partnerships with Employers

1-2 June 2011

Edinburgh Conference Centre, Heriot-Watt University

The Scottish Higher Education Employability Forum (SHEEF) is pleased to announce a major two-day national conference on 1-2 June 2011 for higher education providers and employers which is being jointly organised by the Higher Education Academy, QAA Scotland and the Scottish Funding Council. The overarching aims of the conference are both to highlight and celebrate the work that has been undertaken to date in strengthening the graduate employability agenda in Scottish higher education, but also to address where we go from here and the vital role which employers can play in enhancing graduate employability.

The main intended outcomes of the conference are:

· Increased shared understanding and awareness of the issues and challenges which are faced by both employers and HE institutions

· Raised awareness of the achievements of the Scottish Funding Council's recent four year strategic funding initiative to enhance graduate employability and discussion of the next phase of development

· Sharing of best practise across the HE and Employer sectors

· Offering effective networking opportunities

· Debating national policy with the potential to shape future policy

The format and content of the conference has been designed to provide a variety of interactive sessions which will appeal to a wide range of stakeholders including: senior managers, employability practitioners, policy makers, employer representative agencies and their members, and students. Sessions will include: plenary talks from members of both the HE and business communities from Scotland, the rest of the UK and internationally; participatory workshops; poster and exhibition sessions; question and answer sessions with plenary speakers; and an interactive policy debate with the motion 'This house believes that in this day and age, high level transferrable skills in graduates are more important than specialist subject knowledge.'

There is no registration fee to attend the conference and delegates are invited to register for either one or both days. A drinks reception and conference dinner with invited speakers will be held on the evening of 1st June at the Edinburgh Conference Centre at a cost of £35 per person.
