Dear colleagues, I thought the following might be of interest. Professor Adrian Johnstone is giving a public interest lecture on the language of mechanism, at 6.15 on Thu 10 March in the Windsor Building at Royal Holloway in Egham. There is no need to book and there is a free wine reception after the talk. Adrian is an expert in parsing theory but is also a fan of Lego, CAD systems, steam engines, and Babbage. This talk explores the language of mechanism and explains how computer programming operates, using highly visual analogies. Expect an informal talk with some surprising examples. Hope to see you there.
