Grant, You haven't asked for prevention advice but out of interest I have had three separate referrals following gout in the last 5 years and all have claimed they have no poor lifestyle choices that could explain the condition and yet on discussion all three had an episode of possible dehydration prior to the symptoms e.g. long haul flights with limited attention to hydration (or in one case an aversion to hydration as he would not use public toilets) and a case of sunstroke. None of these clients have had a recurrence of their gout since they have maintained their hydration. I know I may be stating the obvious for some if not all but it was helpful to them (and me) to see the link.
