Hi
We would have history of 2 x MMRs on our print out. The history is from evidence produced not from what they tell. Try asking the Trust that it is from what it means if unsure. If we are alldoing the same then a history should mean based on evidence produced

Hi,
We used to accept verbal history – no longer do, so although our OPAS print outs state MMR history, we would no longer accept it.

Kind regards Suzanne

Thanks for help so far. I recently had a client who produced document (printout from previous Trust which said ‘history of 2 mmrs’. So is that just verbal history or documentary evidence seen? I know it’s splitting hairs but at the end of the day….. my instinct is ‘history’ documented by another OH practitioner is sufficient, but I am struggling to get agreement in some quarters…….

Hi Mary,

I know the feeling of spending too much time on this particular issue. My colleagues and I spend far too much time on checking whether or not clients have had this.

We will only take proof from previous OH departments and GP's in the form of print outs and never worry at all about Batch numbers. Sometimes clients parents and Guardians have it in a record book. We obviously take photo copies as these are precious documents kept by their nearest and dearest from birth. They can also find out from PCT's who sometimes have records although this varies and can be difficult to track down.

All those clients who are unsure whether or not they are pregnant I blood test. We are discouraged from doing this. The Doctors and Manager prefer us to give the vaccines rather than blood test as the tests cost £17.50. I am always getting into trouble for this one but I am after all doing the RA and the nurse giving the injection. The other thing of course is we are only interested in Measles and Rubella not Mumps but this is another issue.

Hope this helps. Would be happy to talk about this in more depth.

Linda Ramsbottom

What are the thoughts of nhs colleagues? The 'Green Book' says documentary evidence of having received 2 x MMR vaccines is sufficient evidence of immunity to measles and rubella (for healthcare workers). What would you call documentary evidence in this situation? eg - a printout from previous OH provider stating - definite history of 2 mmrs? Or should it be a printout from a GP surgery (more and more difficult to get hold of), a record of batch numbers etc? Exactly how much can we/should we rely on previous OH providers. I am spending too much time dwelling on this I know, and with the increasing use of IT systems in OH I really want to be able to take printouts from them as accurate enough clinical records for our screening purposes. Comments gratefully received.
