What may refine the thought processes of the client is that they may not qualify for SSP if they leave the EU.

Evening All

Professional Guidance question time - well, a few questions actually and I can't answer them myself.

1. Should OH be involved in giving evidence  in an internal Trust grievance. (The client wants to know every single conversation between OH and the manager etc and contents of peer review discussions of the case and wants all parties to be there to give evidence)
2. Client X wants to go overseas for treatment (physio/laser therapy) to their home country and specialist feels sorry and signs client off for 6 more weeks after being off for 8 weeks with a fractured wrist and OH advise they may overturn the Fit Note as manager can accommodate modified duties potentially in a non clinical role.

Any comments welcome please

We had a case where a doctor continued to certificate someone as being "unfit" for work when they were in fact abroad. We challanged it with the GP, turns out she was unaware that the individual was out of the country............

Hi - on another note (no pun intented) we have a Consultant who has sent in a fit note from his GP (local) but he is abroad and may be for some time due to a bereavement and "stress". I am aware assessments can be undertaken by phone - but is it reasonable for continued phone assessments to take place and could this be challenged? There is also an investigation taking place
thanks
Di

Might be reasonable but is not *allowed* see http://www.dwp.gov.uk/healthcare-professional/news/statement-of-fitness-for-work.shtml

Fit notes are for benefits and/or SSP purposes and must only be signed by a registered medical practitioner in black ink etc etc...

*Anyone* can of course write *anything* on request on any other sort of paper for a fee or free which might be taken as sufficient evidence by an employer of incapacity but the DWP will not accept it for the purposes of benefit allocation or SSP

So a nurse practitioner seems  reasonable .

Are you querying the need for time off  work/modifications or the diagnosis?
Cheers
