medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

of course, there are considerable vestiges of polychromy on the capitals, the
sculptures of the tympanum, the inside face of the outer arch, and the
archivolts --but that's just your basic, Garden Variety vestiges, Hank, no Big
Deal.

it's the combination of a sculpted pseudo-tympanum (i have no idea what to
call it --help me, someone) with the frescoes painted on the inner arches of
the colonnade

which i believe is quite unique (or, at least, a unique survival of a form
which might have once been much more common).

i know of no other surviving example of that combination, anywhere.
