2011-2014

As part of an initiative to support new PhD students in the Department
of Sociology, University of Limerick, we are inviting applicants for two
PhD fee waivers. These are aimed at new applicants seeking to pursue
postgraduate work in the specific areas of expertise in this dynamic and
vibrant department. One of the Fee Waivers is to support PhD research
on the specific topic of 'Gender, Migration and Catholic Faith-Based
Organisations' and the second Fee Waiver is open to areas of research in
line with departmental expertise. Applicants for the second Fee Waiver
must align their proposed study with the interests and strengths of the
Department of Sociology such as the sociology of health and illness; the
body; the media; education; youth, community and social regeneration;
gender and migration; religion; social mobility; family; the internet
and social media. Further details of faculty research interests are
available on the departmental website.

The recipients of the Fee Waivers will undertake 15 hours of work per
semester for the department. Fee waivers will be awarded for one year in
the first instance and may be renewable subject to annual review of
progress. Also, in the event of the recipient receiving funding
elsewhere then the Fee Waiver will revert to the department.
