Dear All,

The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery is looking to replace its current collections management system, INCA. The backend software and table structure has not changed very much since 1993 (!!), although it has proved capable of supporting online collections access (http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk), OAI-PMH etc.

Obviously technology has moved on since then, so we are interested in looking widely at practices and developments across the sector which offer new approaches to collections management, data access and engagement. At this stage we don't want to limit ourselves to simply looking at what systems are out there, but at how museums (and libraries and archives) use collections systems in innovative ways to improve access to and use of the collections themselves. So, if you have, or know of any particularly exciting examples of such usage, please contact on or off-list.
