Our regular cleaner is excellent and our
library gets hoovered every Thursday, the bins emptied daily and the woodwork
gets wiped down every few weeks.
Some days however if she is on annual/sick
leave then we have to empty the bins ourselves, and occasionally hoover (unless
the housekeeping manager sends another cleaner to cover for her).
We wipe down the tables, computers etc
ourselves as needed and have recently put up new signage on the tables and notice
boards to encourage our borrowers to use the bins as we were starting to find
more and more rubbish left in the library – crisp packets, plastic cups
etc (we allow eating and drinking in the library) and this seems to have worked
well J

Subject: Library cleanliness
Good morning,
With a view to the current bigger picture surrounding
libraries I am aware that my question may sound trite, but I would appreciate
some information.
There has been an ongoing issue with the standard of
cleaning in the library here (actual library space not library office) and
yesterday someone informed me that bar Hoovering and emptying the bins (on a
weekly basis) any other cleaning/dusting duties in the actual library should be
done by library staff.
I would be grateful for any information regarding
library cleaning- does your library get cleaned? If so, by whom and what
exactly gets cleaned and how often?
I have worked out that to clean the desks/study
booths/tops of shelves and relevant trunking etc would take me about 1 ½ hours.
Thanks in advance,
Leanne (currently not wearing a tabard)
