Mine is a small library, combining ‘library’ and ‘office’:  the cleaner comes into the whole building daily [more or less] and hoovers [judging by the displacement of anything around the plug !] and empties bins.  Not much else is done in the library.  I would think it reasonable to expect flat surfaces, if left reasonably clear, to be dusted down in a daily clean – that is no more than office standards, where the usual issue was that the surface had to be ‘clear’ to be cleaned.

 

My library is used for groups, meetings, etc., and I do find that I need to check the desk surface, and if ‘spotty’ wipe it myself.  I am not housewifely enough to have dusted all the shelves when I did a ‘book move’ – I thought about it, but only part way through, so didn’t do it !

With a view to the current bigger picture surrounding libraries I am aware that my question may sound trite, but I would appreciate some information.

 

There has been an ongoing issue with the standard of cleaning in the library here (actual library space not library office) and yesterday someone informed me that bar Hoovering and emptying the bins (on a weekly basis) any other cleaning/dusting duties in the actual library should be done by library staff.

 

I would be grateful for any information regarding library cleaning- does your library get cleaned? If so, by whom and what exactly gets cleaned and how often?

 

I have worked out that to clean the desks/study booths/tops of shelves and relevant trunking etc would take me about 1 ½ hours.
