I see a Harry Hill moment coming along:
Swets or Ebsco?
FIGHT!

We have been with
Swets – it is not an EBSCO or a Swets specific issue.

Oh, now I hadn’t thought of that – must
be slipping – I really like pitchforksJ
A question – I get the impression most of the
respondees are using Ebsco an agent – is the problem particularly bad
with Ebsco or is it much the same with Swets?
I seriously considered changing agent this year, but
left it in view of a lot of other stuff happening – but wonder if
changing would merely be swapping frying pans?
Opinions welcome!
Thanks

I like this idea too, it’s a reasonable
alternative to marching on their offices with pitchforks and flaming torches.

And same story here – the UK must be one big
homogeneous blip by now. We’re missing issues going back 2 and 3 years
now, well before volcanic eruptions, mainly 2 American titles and the claims
system is just a pain.
I really like the idea of paying retrospectively for
issues received – I guess a campaign would have to be national and
comprehensive – ‘together we stand’ – before the
publishers would take any notice (esp the US), but it’s a nice thought to
play with.

hello all
encouraging to know that we are not the
only blip! Our deliveries for some journals have been consistently bad
for the last 2 yrs - mainly American journal of.... etc .. Last
year the Ash cloud was blamed for the disruption at the beginning of the
year, but it continued; then they claim to have sent replacements and
they don't arrive either, there must be a large warehouse somewhere
of undelivered medical journals!
We get the same responses re claiming:
too late, claimed too many etc. Our agent , Swets has fought our
corner for some and got most of the missing issues replaced, but we
should not have to depend on dogged determination to get what we have paid a
huge amount of money for up front.
If we could start paying
retrospectively for what we receive, maybe then the publishers would get their
act together and deliver the journals, and deliver on time.

Hello,
I would say it is
not a blip. We have had enormous challenges extracting paper copies of
journals for some time now.
We are told we
didn’t claim in time (rarely true) or that we have claimed too many times
(our fault how?) and that we have had too many free replacements and will have
to pay for further replacements (you must be kidding).
Problem seems to
come from use of the cheapest possible route for delivery. Net effect
– non delivery.
Cheers

journals
Here at the NOC we have a number of outstanding
journal issues from last year.
We have met with our account services manager to
discuss the matter and they report that we are a blip in terms of not having
our back issues supplied and that most clients have had their back copies of
journals supplied.
Is this the case that for most libraries this problem
is now resolved?
Looking forward, are there any examples where
subscription agents have dealt with this well?
Many thanks,
