Internet Archaeology is very pleased to announce the publication of  “A History of Historic House Reconstruction: Understanding the Past and Informing the Future” by Liz Stewart

http://intarch.ac.uk/journal/issue29/stewart_index.html

This article assesses the impact of reconstruction work on historic houses and using a range of evidence, traces how some English Medieval and Tudor buildings have been altered in order to display them to the public. The philosophies behind works undertaken are considered in the context of contemporary ideas of the conservation movement, and tensions between the broad conservation philosophies of the time and the work undertaken on individual buildings are investigated. This recent history of buildings is an important element in their planning and management, and this article aids our understanding of this history.

regards,

Judith
