I can feel the thread of this unravelling and now you've mentioned
standards!

Shame, a bit of irony often improves the quality of sarcasm.

But only with LB consent from the LA who will know where they were moved
to!

I think it would be a good idea if LBs could be added to some type of
computer mapping system as well as the existing paper maps.

Yes this is sarcasm not irony

Not all houses have numbers, some just have names which can be changed
by new owners. A friend had his house name 'stolen' by a new-comer to
his village so there are now two properties with the same address. Also
large houses are converted into flats and would be re-numbered. In the
past there have been re-numbering of whole streets by the post office -
hopefully this will not happen in the future but may have occurred since
the greenback was published. Another scenario is that a building has
burnt down / demolished and a new property with the same address has
been built. Has this made its way into the records? The list description
will make this obvious but might be missed in respect of a telephone
enquiry.

In the days before retirement I had a passing interest in greenbacks and
one of the issues in addition to the listing updates was changes of
postal addresses. Enquiries from owners etc. are usually on the basis of
the current address not the historic one. It was therefore possible for
someone to be advised on the telephone that the property was not listed
as the data had not been updated.

Hello everyone,

I have a question too, if it's Friday question time!

As a local authority we have a statutory duty to update the greenbacks
with new/amended listings. However, since we now have the info on the
HER and it's available direct from EH online via LBOnline, are we still
expected to look after greenbacks?

As our historic buildings people disappear I suspect more and more of
these duties will fall to me. I can print the things I receive out and
put them with the greenbacks - is this what we're expected to do? I
have no idea. The historic buildings people didn't seem entirely clear
either.

Sorry if this is becoming increasingly vague and rambly!
