Cheshire West & Chester Council - Specialist Environmental Services, Community and Environment, Backford Hall, Near Chester

 

Chester has some of the most important urban archaeology in Britain. Two archaeologists are now required to compile an urban archaeological database, archaeological characterisation and research framework.  The work is funded by English Heritage as part of a national programme of intensive urban surveys.

 

Ideally you must have a degree in archaeology or a related subject. You must have experience of compiling Historic Environment Records or similar GIS based archaeological records, preferably with experience of HBMSR and ArcGIS. You will be familiar with the archaeology of all periods in England, and ideally you will have a good understanding of urban archaeology. You should have some understanding of the planning system and of the relevant national legislation and guidance which provide the context for this project.
