Dear all

Where a student has taken a break from studies (3 months or more, not including the summer vacation) we also do a repeat check.  The argument being that we can not 'safely' account for the behaviour of the student whilst they have been away.  We would term the absence as a break in service.  The DfE rules allow for this.

Thank you and kind regards.

Subject: [CRB-HE] Repeat CRB checks

Dear all

I’m keen to get an idea of what other universities do in terms of students who take time out from their studies (for whatever reason) and then return after 6 months, a year, or more: do other institutions insist that the CRB check is repeated before the student returns to course (or at least commences a placement)?

At present the University of Cumbria does this for anyone who interrupts their course for 6 months or more. This practice pre-dates me and is now being questioned for various reasons - I’d be interested to know what others do.

Please feel free to reply off list if you prefer.

Many thanks for your help,

Rebecca
