The South West Region of the Archives and Records Association proudly announces the following training event open to all regions, members and non-members:

‘Beating the Recession: Successful Fundraising and Marketing for Archivists’

When? Tuesday 12th April 2011, 10.00am to 4.15pm

Where? Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Chippenham, SN15 3QN

Who for? Archivists, Librarians, Museum Curators and anyone else who wants to make the most of their archive.

How much? £35.00 for ARA members and £45.00 for non-members, to include lunch.

Is your organisation strapped for cash? Do you want to counter the cuts? Then this training day is for you.

Prominent speakers, including representatives from the Heritage Lottery Fund, MLA South West, Wellcome Trust, Nottinghamshire Archives and Dorset History Centre, will give you their ideas for fundraising and marketing and pass on their experience from previous case studies.

Not only will you discover a wide variety of sources of funding and how to access them but you will also learn ways to create effective outreach programmes including exhibitions, talks and presentations, marketing, the use of the web, publications and working with the media, along with planning, policy-making and partnerships. I am also told you can expect a surprise or two from the presentation by Chris Weir of Nottinghamshire Archives!

There will also be a Q&A session in which speakers and delegates can share ideas, thoughts, questions and queries arising from the day or which they have been considering for some time.

A provisional programme for the day and the booking form can be found on the ARA website here: http://www.archives.org.uk/events/regions/south-west/viewevent.html?eventid=28

We hope to see you there!

Graham Tratt and Jo Johnston,
Joint Training Officers, ARA South West.
