Wise scholars,
A friend recently asked how "antitype," which seems a negation of "type," has come to mean "fulfillment." The OED makes the usage reasonably clear--"that which is shadowed forth or represented by the 'type' or symbol"--but does anyone have any more insight into why/how these expressions became the language for biblical typology?
