Gilbert of Sempringham
There is a window of heraldic glass in Selby Abbey which, until 1984 was in
the parish church at Ellerton in East Yorkshire, a Victorian building made
redundant in the early 1980's. The predecessor church at Ellerton had been the
nave of the Gilbertine Priory there, founded between 1199 and 1203. This glass
was transferred to the rebuilt church and may, therefore, be presumed to be
Gilbertine.
