Subject: Re: Music, Arts, Performance & Cultural Studies: New book released on the Political Calypso Art-form

Dear Arts Enthusiast,

I am sending you, some information on the book: "The Political Calypso - A SocioLinguistic Process of Conflict Transformation" which will be of interest in the context of the work on music, dance, drama and Cultural Studies.

The book was launched by the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission in London on Wed 25th August 2010. The National Library and Information Service of Trinidad and Tobago also launched a book earlier.  you will see that it takes research into the calypso art form to a new and much deeper dimension than before, showing how calypsonians are social actors in a theatre of emancipation.

The book which is set against the spectrum of black musical art-forms, examines the role of calypsonians working as liminal-servants in the field of what today, is known as: "Political Theatre".  A synopsis of the book is attached as is the cover in pdf format.

This book which has a Foreword written by Dr Hollis Liverpool (Chalkdust) is a must read for all those who are seriously interested in Caribbean Studies and by extension, the Calypso/kaiso Art-form.

For further information or to purchase a copy of the book kindly contact me either by email using:

Regards,

Everard Phillips Ph. D.
