# rpm -qR glite-security-gss | grep libcares
libcares.so.0()(64bit)

# rpm -qp --provides \
http://linuxsoft.cern.ch/cern/slc5X/updates/x86_64/RPMS/c-ares-1.6.0-5.el5.x86_64.rpm
libcares.so.2()(64bit)
c-ares = 1.6.0-5.el5

So, one cannot upgrade to 1.6.0-5 from that repo, but you have 1.6.0-1:
apparently it provides what glite-security-gss needs?

Does your CE seem to work OK?
